OUR HISTORY

April 1976, Pastor Algie L. Parker, who was serving the flock of Angelic Temple in Lincoln, Nebraska, felt the Spirit of God move him to begin a mission in Omaha, Nebraska.  After continuous prayer, fasting and consecration, the first service of Antioch Church was held May 1976 in the dining room of Pastor Algie Parker and Missionary Martha Parker.

Many souls were saved and members added to the ministry.  Pastor Parker determined there was a need for the congregation to find a larger place to worship.  Missionary Parker was driving in the area of 36th and Miami Street when she noticed a small white church which was vacant.  There was a house adjacent to the church which was also vacant and for sale.  Antioch was blessed to purchase both buildings.  After a significant amount of work and preparation, the first service was held at the Antioch Church of God In Christ on Friday night May 27, 1976.

As the Lord continued to bless the ministry and souls were added to the church, the congregation soon outgrew the one room edifice.  Many occasions there was barely standing room during services.  Pastor Parker was again led by God to expand and remodel the church building.  At this time, the economy was unstable and finances were short.  Although it seemed economically impossible, God provided the wherewithal allowing Antioch to expand and remodel the church building in May 1982.  Throughout the years, God blessed Antioch to grow in membership and through the addition of a multipurpose center, van ministry, and the purchase of additional property for future expansion.

Elder Parker was also a very wise and excellent teacher of the word.  Under his leadership, spiritual growth was indisputable and many souls were saved.  He and Missionary Parker labored in outreach ministry and spiritual discipleship where they continued the work until he went on to be with the Lord in 2007.

To this day Missionary Mother Parker-Love continues to be a member of Antioch and the Supervisor of Women of the Nebraska First Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ where she has served in that capacity for nearly 20 years.
